Green Mountain Coffee Steps Forward with $25,000 for Walk for Hunger

Despite Economic Instability, Sponsorship Support Remains Strong for Project Bread's Walk

Project Bread welcomes Green Mountain Coffee as a new Checkpoint Sponsor for the upcoming Walk for Hunger, which takes place on Sunday, May 3rd. Green Mountain Coffee allocates at least 5 percent of its pre-tax profit to socially and environmentally conscious causes, including hunger. In addition to its corporate pledge of $25,000, employees from Green Mountain Coffee will also volunteer at Checkpoint 2 at Cleveland Circle to stamp walking papers and hand out samples of coffee, including Fair Trade Certified™ organic coffees, while supplies last.

“In these difficult economic times, we need to stand with our neighbors more than ever,” said Michael Dupee, vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. “Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger has been engaging the Boston community for decades on hunger and food security, generating significant grassroots financial support for emergency food services throughout Massachusetts. We are proud to support Project Bread and the Walk for Hunger and help ensure that everyone has enough to eat.”

“Powerless people need powerful friends,” said Ellen Parker, executive director of Project Bread. “And in this economy Green Mountain Coffee is demonstrating that it’s a friend indeed to those who struggle to put food on the table. We are incredibly heartened by Green Mountain Coffee’s support and see their pledge as a marvelous example of corporate citizenship.”

Green Mountain Coffee joins Walk sponsors Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Arbella Insurance Group Charitable Foundation, Raytheon Company, State Street Corporation, Citizens Bank, Massachusetts, Welch’s, Partners HealthCare, and Bay State Milling Company, among others, all of which have dedicated funds to feed struggling Masschusetts families.
