The Times reports Bishop may have been working on a "herpes bomb" when she was denied tenure. Jay Fitzgerald concludes the real problem in this case was that:

[S]he was always surrounded by all these allegedly smart people who assumed she was crazy enough to do these things -- and yet she was allowed, even encouraged, to flitter away to her next weird encounter, a societal problem pawned off to the next chumps in line.

But he ponders: The Coen Brothers or Oliver Stone to direct?

Ok, it *is* Alabama and all, but this part of the NYTimes story just completely weirded me out more than the "herpes bomb" whatnot:

By the time of the reports [about a possible herpes bomb], the police had already swept every room of the science building, finding nothing but a 9-millimeter handgun in the second-floor restroom.

Why in the HELL was there a 9mm handgun in the 2nd floor restroom of a science building to be found by police!?

EDIT: Ok, I think I figured out what happened. That's the gun that Bishop used because reports of her herpes bomb were *after* the shooting or something? I don't know, it's all written totally confusingly.

I sure hope they have someone guarding her husband. He was awfully cavalier about the attempted bombing of Dr. Rosenberg. (And check out the picture of the two of them. She looks like the normal one. Yikes!)
