Campaign update: Can Republicans jump on the latest Globe probation report?

The Globe turns its Spotlight on Rep. Thomas Petrolati, the patronage king who has "a history of acting as if ordinary rules do not apply to him." Also, a Democrat.

Also in the Globe, a poll shows Patrick opening a slim lead, but with caveats. Will tomorrow night's debate make a difference?

The Perry sorta rally: Globe,

The messy science of campaign signs.

Punditocracy: Gelzinis covers the Perry rally: I've seen warmer handshakes in divorce court. Joan Vennochi compares what Republicans are trying to do with the strip-search victim with the way they keep treating Anita Hill. Derrick Z. Jackson makes the case for voting against repeal of the booze tax, saying it saves lives. Jeff Jacoby wants you to roll back the sales tax.

Carla Howell and the Sales Tax reduction ballot question sure could get a boost from this kind of thing.

The next time you hear one of those doom-voiced commercials about how "basic services will be cut to the bone..." should we vote Yes on Question Three, ask your self this:

Is Petrolati and his patronage empire, that we're paying for, a "basic service" that we can live with out? I think so, which is why I'm voting yes on questions One and Three.

So many corrupt Democrats, so few candidates to run against them.

Petrolati keeps getting re-elected despite his reputation. The locals love him because he's nice to them and takes care of them (supposedly). This reminds me of the Mexican drug cartels that essentially own a town, building churches, hospitals, soccer fields, etc. with all their dirty money. The locals don't care because they think they're better off.
