Library trustees could meet later this month to reconsider shutting four branches

City Councilor Felix Arroyo gets library officials to at least think about reversing their decision to shut branches in Brighton, South Boston, Dorchester and East Boston, if the city or state can come up with enough money to keep them open, the Dorchester Reporter reports.

will Library Trustees ever recover?
The trustees will never do anything so publicly beneficial that it will outweigh the harm they propose to do now. If the city is in the hole next year $200M, nobody is going to thank the library board for keeping us from $203M.
Do they really want to go to the mat for this? It's really their choice whether to stick with this kamikaze plan that nobody wants out of plain stubbornness, or begin the rehabilitation of their image.
Menino will be gone in a few years, maybe sooner, and these people will be dangling over the fire, the perfect targets for the next mayor who wants to harness populist anger. Menino has been mayor for five terms of largely forgettable leadership. When he is out of office he will disappear and nobody is going to be there to protect the members of this board.
