More to do in Gloucester than just going to high school and getting pregnant

The Boston Business Journal reports the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce has hired a PR firm to help plant non-pregnancy memes in people's minds:

"It's time we stop letting others define us and take the lead in getting the word out about what a beautiful, historic and colorful place Gloucester is,' Bob Hastings, executive director of the chamber, said. ...

Please let this not be successful - at least not until I can save enough money to buy a place up there. Anyone in the know knows that the only Cape worth going to anymore is the one to the north.

Please come on up. It's really not bad living here - I am within 300 feet of a T stop, grocery store, 3 pizza places, chinese food, liquor store, and at least 3 breakfast places. And most of my neighbors are nice, and keep to themselves. And there's a 2 family for sale behind me for $196 k.

However, there's still some jerks around here. My husband's had issues while bicycling (and even driving is a scary endeavour), stuff's been stolen from our yard, neighbors like to dump stuff on our property instead of pay to toss it out, crap like that. It's a little disconcerting because 95% of the people here have known each other since birth and aren't always nice to newcomers.

You can get to several kayak outfitters in Rockport and Gloucester by using the rail line. Some will pick you up at the train, others don't - but you can bring your bike on the bike train and get to anywhere on Cape Ann from the commuter rail.

Or just bring your bike up, ride around, and head back. Plenty to see, plenty to do, and plenty to eat!

The T runs a specially-equipped 'bike train' to Cape Ann on weekends, with room for lots of bikes in a seatless car. However, you can take a bike on any weekend commuter train, anywhere on the MBTA system. And on most weekday trains, unless you're going in the primary commuting direction at rush hour.

(Swirly knows all of this, but some readers here might not.)

...and ride on any commuter train (or subway, bus, or ferry) in the system at any time.

I've never seen so many obese "athletes" in my life.

Obese? You can *tell* by looking at somebody's arms?? You can't even see the entire body of these people. Furthermore circumference of body != fatness - some people are wearing PFDs and dry shirts or wetsuits as well.

Being an athlete has nothing to do with weight or fatness anyway. Anybody can be active and fit at any weight. In fact, so-called "fitfats" have been shown to have lower overall health risks than people who don't exercise but are "thin" according to the imprecise BMI standards and, likely, your exacting standards of assthetics.

Maybe somebody should do a fatness measurement on your head, no?

How many people really think of Gloucester as a place to get pregnant? To me, it's always been a fishing town, a port, and a place to look at the sea. As Swirly says, it's also a great place to ride a bike.

I had a fine time getting pregnant in Gloucester, and I hope to do it again! *rimshot*
