wasn't mayor? I doubt we'd be arguing about closing libraries if he were.

Yeah because he really loves this town.

He's packing up shop for more lucrative offers. Guess he's taking his ball and going home.

There's plenty of other political oppertunities in the commonweath. Guys his CA funders want a better return.

Is Menino still selling city-owned property for a steal? Is he still determined to close 4libraries that need 1.6 billion a year to stay open? Wouldn't it be great if we had two newspapers in town that would investigate city, county and commonwealth government? And A AG that would prosecute powerful lawbreakers when the facts require it?

Boston's loss is DC's gain. Thanks to Sam for all you brought to the Council and to the Mayor's race, we are a better city for it.

Yeah, Sam. Thanks for not showing up to all those city council meetings you couldn't be bothered to attend - you really contributed by not being there.

...someone who needs a job -- and couldn't find one here.

Weld goes to private practice in NY, Cellucci goes to an ambassador job for Canada, Romney leaves the state to do various other things...while still in office.

I'm not happy Yoon is gone, just disappointed in him. I wish he would have stayed. Anybody who does even a small part to shake up the existing system is worth keeping around in my book.

He's somebody who actually wanted to do the work he was trained for, rather than play games with cronyism and meaningless zoning and self-aggrandizing "community leaders" threaten lawsuits in order to get bon bons.

The fact of the matter is he was not here for all that long, ran for mayor and then left after losing. I am sure he was better trained to be a mayor then Menino, from an educational stand point, but I highly doubt he could really understand the workings of a city he has spent so little time in. Now leaving in this way he is closing the door on becoming mayor in the future. I really thought that by running this time around he was setting himself up for a future run. I know this may go against your sensibilities but the people around here (they proved it at the polls) want at least a few politicians who would live here, work here and work for the community even if they were to lose their elections. Nothing would have gained him more respect then losing the mayors fight and then turning around and staying in Boston for a few years as an activist. Do you know why he could never pull ahead of Flaherty? The people I knew who wanted change told me they were afraid they could not trust him, that he was running for mayor because he wanted to be mayor, not because he thought he was best for the city. They felt he was a carpetbagger who saw an oppurtunity and jumped on it. Considering that he spent a year living here as a citizen before running for council and a half year living here post council before leaving the city I am not sure if I would disagree with those people. Politicians need to represent the people who live in the area, I am now not sure if Yoon did that. It seems like if he can not be an elected official in this city he can not live here. You complain about the entitlement culture, is that not entitlement?

The refreshing thing about Sam Yoon was that he wasn't a career politician - he had a background in community organizing through CDCs and wanted to use government as a force for change. Glad to see he's returning to his non-profit roots, though certainly sad to see him leave Boston.

Yoon's departure is a loss for Boston.

This is a big loss for the people of Boston, and a huge win for Menino and all his entrenched political operatives. Yoon knew that running against Menino meant that Menino would never let him do anything in this city again, and its this kind of petty redneck approach that is making Boston a difficult place to get anything done that doesnt jibe with Meninos vision, a "Framingham on the water" chock full of chain stores and parking garages over local business owners and a walkable city.

Sam Yoon is a carpetbagging coward. If serving the people was important, he should have sucked it up and stayed... waited his turn... and while doing that built his base for the future to run again.
