What the Z. in Mary Z. Connaughton stands for comes in handy for campaigning in the North End

Connaughton, for the roughly 99% of you who have never heard of her, is the Republican candidate for auditor this year. She normally doesn't spell out her middle name, but makes an exception in the North End.

Oh man
Saw this on Sunday on Hanover Street. It's great to be eye-talian when the situation permits. Mary CONNAUGHTON should be ashamed.
It's not just that she's Italian...
Please read WARD3DEM's comment on the Blue Mass Group blog (linked to in the Universal Hub post).
Mary Connaughton's father, Vincent Zarrilli, was extremely well known in the North End, as a business owner, political figure, neighborhood activist, and gadfly (just as his daughter served as a gadfly on the Turnpike Authority board). She isn't just trying to connect to her Italian heritage, she's trying to connect to the people who knew and know her father.
I would actually say shame on those who don't remember her father. He was (is, I think) quite a character.
The rats guy!
He wanted to build a bridge across the harbor instead of the Big Dig.
the Rats guy!
Wow, I met this guy when he was posting a sign "build the Boston Bypass" I thought he was nuts at the time, now I think he may have been prescient.
Cigars
Ugh - the thing I most remember about Vincent Zarrilli is that he absolutely STANK of cigars. He was a regular customer at Copy Cop back in the day and I used to fantasize that everything in his home was made of cigars, he smelled so bad.
OK, so...
Her playing up her Italian heritage is a no-no, but riding daddy's coattails is all good? Calling BS on that.
