Boloco: City inspectors threatened to shut restaurant over burrito donations to event organized by the mayor

John Pepper, founder of the Boloco chain, is ripping into the city on Twitter tonight for what happened with the burritos the mayor's office promised bicyclists who showed up at the Hubway bike-rental announcement in front of City Hall today:

City of Boston threatened 2 shut down fed st Boloco b/c City of Boston didn't pull food permit for their own event. We donated 200 burritos.

How a city can thank businesses for supporting its civic efforts with rudeness, threats, and disrespect has us reeling today.

Not staying quiet any longer. Between the union rackets, bureaucracy, red tape, and lack of graciousness it's a wonder anything gets done.

The mayor recently proposed a one-stop Business Resource Center aimed at making it easier for small businesses to get things done in Boston. However, it's part of his budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1.

That story is the type that makes the Herald salivate. Forget venting on Twitter; call the Herald, Globe, fox25 and get a crew down there next time!

I'm pretty sure Twitter is the main source of news for "journalists" these days.

You go where the news is - and in this case, it was all unfolding on Twitter.

Don't you know, real journalism can't be done with electronic sources. I mean who needs computers.

When they stop trying to charge $7 for a mushy poorly made burrito, they can complain, otherwise simmer down.

I think this event came together really quickly. The Mayor's office asked Bolocco to do them a favor to make the event more attractive at an odd time (I suspect it was post-lunch to avoid the circus start time?) . Boloco graciously agreed, and it's too bad that they're getting persecuted. I hope the mayor steps up and makes the problem go away.

This is a good example of the drag that the Menino administration is on the city.

First, the shakedown for the "donation" of burritos.

Then, they stumble over themselves to try to shakedown Boloco again.

When times were good, Menino's incompetence was masked by the late Joe Casazza, who paid attention to public works and had the money to fix them.

Aside from that, no development strategy, or harebrained schemes to move City Hall, or demolish historic buildings before the project is ready to move forward. Holes in the ground.

Menino governs like a third-world dictator, he'll probably run for another term.

Can you give ANY evidence for your accusations? Or perhaps you're a reporter for the Herald.

to the corner of Washington and Franklin, there's your evidence. You can walk down to Washington and Lagrange, too.

could not agree more. after 20+ years of his poor, divisive leadership there is ample evidence to support the comments made above. anyone who follows City Hall closely is familiar with his honor's bullying style. please vote for a new mayor next election, please!

Holy guacamole, I hope someone spills the beans on this.

Maybe Inspectional Services should go out and inspect restaurants on a regular schedule, and actually put the results of those inspections in the windows of the establishments for all to see - just like they do in many, many other places.

That would be too much like work, though.

You mean, like they do in real cities?

The city health inspectors do visit restaurants for health violations:
