Petty White House press office ensures continued negative coverage in the Herald

Thin-skinned flacks show displeasure at Romney op-ed piece; ban Herald from today's traffic blocker visit.
You know it's bad when even the Outraged Liberal rises to the Herald's support.
But it is curious that Howie Carr didn't weigh in; you'd think Bariatric Boy would relish the idea to spend 10 minutes with his thesaurus stringing together several paragraphs worth of insults. Oh, right, he has more important stuff to do, like insult the Kennedys.

Have any previous administrations pulled stuff like this - barring (or not allowing) reporters to a presidential event? Either Bush, Clinton, Reagan?
Not the first time
On the left coast, the San Francisco Chronicle was threatened with having its access to the press pool revoked after they posted video of hecklers at an Obama fundraiser out there. For a guy whose first act was to increase transparency in government, this all seems very weird.

Bush did this all the time, at it was widely reported, well, of course not by the Herald. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now, but its pretty slimy of the Herald to not point that out in their article. In all fairness, the Herald is hardly a legitimate paper, its a joke. What other paper puts an op-ed piece by the a politician from the opposite party on the front page?

I'm trying to find an example of Bush banning media outlets who gave him less-than-flattering coverage, but I cannot. In fact, I cannot find an example of any modern administration behaving this way. Nixon had the NYT and the Washington Post on his infamous "enemies list", but even he didn't have a policy of excluding those who engaged in "unfair" reporting. Please provide a single, solitary example, Not Verified.
edit: oh, and "yeah, well Bush did it too" is no excuse. We elected President Obama precisely because he was not George W. Bush, or so we assumed at the time.

How many of these slots are there?
Some of the language ("asking the White House to be the local pool reporter") makes it sound like there's just one slot for Boston papers. Why would they give it to the local birdcage liner instead of a real newspaper? If you choose not to be journalists, you can't complain about not getting jobs in journalism. If the WH were inviting every journalist, blogger and producer of thinly veiled propaganda, maybe they could score a slot.

Boohoo, legitimate papers don't run front-page op-eds by political candidates. The Herald is a tabloid, it can get in line right behind the National Enquirer.
