Man critical after getting hit by bus on Comm. Ave. near Packards Corner

The Daily Free Press reports a BU alumnus who tried crossing in front of a 57 bus at Commonwealth and Babcock yesterday morning was taken away in bad shape. The T says the bus had the green light.

And trolleys for that matter, especially up a block at Packard's Corner. But this location is an underrated disaster, with a weird combination of inattentive BU pedestrians, inattentive Match Charter pedestrians, and a bottom-out-able elevation shift for cars coming from Babcock and crossing over the tracks.
Plus it's the only legal place for a pedestrian to cross Comm. for quite some distance. It's extremely pedestrian unfriendly if you want to get to Star Market from the inbound side, inviting risky decisions borne out of impatience (not saying that this pedestrian was, but happy to point the finger at myself on many prior occasions). Nobody gets off easy in the survey of that particular intersection.

A lot of time those green lights on right turns also give pedestrians a walk signal. I've seen a lot of "almost" accidents where people in cars try are oblivious to the crosswalk right of way.
And no, not blaming anyone here. Just pointing out that the MBTA crying "Green Light" to CYA might not be true in the end.

Could have been trying to make it to a train (outbound I would guess). This intersection is also complicated by the left turn signal outbound. Inbound Comm gets the red while all outbound stays green with the turn. If you just look at the inbound traffic or the light you may think it is clear if you are unfamiliar with the cycle.
Elevate the Green Line!
If the Green line were elevated, people would go up pedestrian bridges at the sidewalk and never endanger themselves crossing traffic. The green line would run much faster by no longer having to stop at street intersections. With increased ridership, the need for elevating lines is urgent. Its all the same reasons why elevation was done in decades past, and just as valid today.
