..just read about it. He led a long life in this world and got to spend all so many years with the Sox, being an employee until the end. Not too shabby, Johnny! RIP.
Pesky will definitely be missed. A total class act.
So, let's see if this year's Red Sox can pull their heads out of their asses and "Do it for Pesky". The one thing this team seems to be completely missing right now is motivation. Well, there's no motivation greater in all of Red Sox Nation today than to "Do it for Pesky".
Beckett? Lester? Aceves? I'm calling you out. Johnny Pesky worked his entire life with the team to be able to see the Red Sox champions, twice. The least this team can do is bust their asses for two months in his honor.
I feel sorry for the players like Pesky who were caught in the white hole of Yawkey's racism. Did Johnny ever wonder what an infield of him, Jackie Robinson, and Marvin Williams could have done? How much more splendid would the Splinter have been with Sam Jethroe batting behind him?

Dispatch from Pinstripe Country
Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News tweeted:
Jeter on Pesky: "Every time I’d see him, he would say, 'I hope you get 4 hits today – and the guy behind you hits into 4 double plays.'"
