West Roxbury's restaurant row to get Vietnamese sandwich shop
By adamg on Wed, 05/02/2012 - 3:44pm
Van B. Tang goes before the Boston Licensing Board next week for permission to open a Vietnamese sandwich shop in a stretch of Centre Street that has become a culinary mecca for the neighborhood.
Tang's proposed Banh Mi Ngon would open at 1759 Centre St., next to Christo's and down the street from Thai Spice, Los Amigos, Red-Eyed Pig, Himalayan Bistro, West on Centre and the Upper Crust.
Banh Mi Ngon would be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to its license request.
The board's hearings start at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in its eighth-floor hearing room at City Hall.

Wow, I can't believe it
They're letting them stay open so late in West Roxbury.
I am so hoping this works out
and that they sell a good quality sandwich at a reasonable price.
Yum
I have no idea what a Vietnamese sandwich is, as distinguished from any other protein-and-bread combo, but I am extremely excited to visit my conveniently-located "culinary mecca" and find out.
Would that make you
one of the UHub commenters who doesn't go to other neighborhoods but feels free to comment about them?
(Lotta banh mi places in Dorchester, Chinatown, a few in Allston.)
Subtlety
in the differences. They are generally seasoned a certain way, might have differing vegetation to go with that protein and bread, and are usually fairly elegant visually. When it comes to my Vietnamese fix, I'm more of a Pho man, so I probably can't tell you too much more. And given the 8:00 closing time, I'll likely never get a chance to try these.
