Yeeha: Country music to return to Fenway next year

The Red Sox and LiveNation said today they're planning on three nights of country and rock music at Fenway Park next August.

Larry Cancro, senior vice president of Fenway affairs for the Sox, said the two concerns are still negotiating with potential country and rock performers for the Aug. 7, 8 and 9 dates, but said a final decision could be announced before the Christmas shopping season - people like giving the tickets as gifts, he said. He did not specify which days would be country and which rock.

Jason Aldean gave Boston its first Fenway country concerts this past July.

Cancro made his comments in a hearing before city licensing commissioner Patricia Malone, who needs to give her blessing to the concerts. Malone said she would reserve judgment until she hears which acts were signed - she said she might need to add specific conditions to the licenses depending on the kind of crowd the acts might attract.

Cancro assured her the rock act would be "low key." He added that the country performer would likely have opening acts, while the rock performer probably would not.

Malone told Cancro that, as in the past, any noise complaints during the concerts to the city's hotline would be immediately forwarded to her, so that she could call the sound guys at the park to turn it down. Cancro said he was "thrilled" to hear that, that Fenway gives out its main phone number to abutters for the same reason, that there were no complaints during the Aldean, Paul McCartney and Justin Timberlake/Jay Z concerts this year. He added that, in the past, noise complaints tended to come during sound checks, rather than the actual performances.
