Boehner-joke writer says his boston.com firing is unfair because it's not like he's Brian Williams or something

Victor Paul Alvarez, the boston.com associate editor who got fired for asking if anybody would notice if John Boehner had been poisoned says three other editors at the site looked at his story and either approved or didn't say no and now he has to explain to his little daughter that, no, it's not fair that that cost him his job while Brian Williams is free to take a few days off for lying about being shot down in Iraq and watching a body float by in New Orleans.

Dear Mr. Alvarez: the fact that none of these three other editors looked at you and said, "The 'eff, dude?" doesn't mean your article was okay. Instead, it means that there are at least three other people in editorial positions at Boston.com who are just as inept at journalism as you are.

I would think being separated from boston.com is about the most positive thing a writer could hope for.

It worked wonders for me as a reader.

Stop turning the business of reporting the news into a race to the bottom. Here's an idea, both for this tool and for Brian Williams: Stop lying and stop sucking at your jobs.

Like, I honestly can't believe that people pay money to attend college to report news for a living. It doesn't appear that they learn much of anything.

strategically placed comma after his "Like", usually denoting a somewhat adolescent mindset.

The difference between Will and Alvarez is that Alvarez was paid to write, and he couldn't get that right.

I have no knowledge of the inner workings of the business of running quiz contests for drunks, so I'll leave that to others. At the end of the day, Alvarez was a dick where he shouldn't have been. Now he can do so on his own website. Will is free to do so here, as we all are.

It's a (expletive) chat thread. I typed in colloquial English.

Maybe boston.com writers were being encouraged to write this kind of provocative web content, and his main mistake was to do a particular flavor of crap that happened to be very tabboo?

Maybe many people were responsible -- up to the owner -- but the writer is the only one publicly taking the hit so far.
