Group opposed to West Roxbury pipeline starts recruiting people willing to stand in front of backhoes and excavators

If the federal government won't stop a high-pressure natural-gas pipeline from Westwood to West Roxbury, some residents say, they will.
Resist the Pipeline is a group willing to take more direct action than writing letters to congressmen:
We are in the process of developing a nonviolent direct action scenario and code of conduct. Our goal will be to respectfully block the construction of the pipeline by sitting in front of construction equipment. We will be completely transparent with local police and city officials, giving them advance notice of our intentions and planned scenario.
Those who wish to participate in nonviolent direct action must take a “direct action and legal rights training that we offer (at no cost), and agree to a code of conduct that will include:
- An attitude of respect to police and local agencies (they are our allies –our conflict is with Spectra and FERC)
- No destruction or damage of public or private property
- An attitude and tone of nonviolence
- Cooperation with arrest, if warned.
On June 18, Dedham Selectman Mike Butler was arrested when he walked onto the site where workers were getting ready to dig the trenches through his town for the pipeline. Digging has not started in West Roxbury; Algonquin Gas Transmission last week went to court to try to force Boston to give it the easements it needs to dig a trench under Washington and Grove streets for the transfer station it plans to build across from West Roxbury Crushed Stone to inject the gas into a National Grid pipeline.
The group is also looking for people willing to stand in silent vigil at construction sites and direct actions short of getting arrested.

As soon as Mr Prosser realized that he was substantially the loser after all, it was as if a weight lifted itself off his shoulders: this was more like the world as he knew it. He sighed.

``That's it,'' said Ford. ``That's it exactly.''
Mr Prosser took a few nervous steps forward and stopped.
``Promise?''

FREC made this ruling based
FREC made this ruling based on engineering evidence. If the City of Boston has done some scientific study showing that the proposed pipeline will be damaged by the work of the quarry they should make it public.
Here's what FERC wrote in their opinion......" Algonquin also retained the services of a local, third-party geotechnical consultant ,GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA), to analyze the potential effects from the blasting operations at the quarry on the pipeline and meter station facilities. The GZA report
concludes that the proposed West Roxbury Lateral pipeline will be subject to vibrations
well within pipeline design parameters. In addition, Algonquin proposes several
mitigation measures from the report to protect the pipeline from blasting impacts....."

My understanding was the opponents and the city went out looking to have a study done and were unable to find any experts willing to write something that would put them in Spectra's bad graces. Hard to get objective evidence when everyone in the industry is beholden to corporate interests.

What's truly lame here
is a system whereby people who have NO expertise in a subject matter other than a totally subjective opinion are considered to be correct and allowed to block a necessary and meaningful project, which has been vetted through ACTUAL experts in the field, on baseless fears. Not to mention that they aren't even required to provide actual evidence in support of their objections.
Here's an idea. Don't want the pipeline? The, perhaps you'll agree you don't need your gas service either.
