Traffic nightmare
Actually the traffic is moving very nicely through the whole project, just like it has been every day when I've been there. It's going to be such an improvement to the neighborhood when this monstrosity is finally gone. The nighttime demolition has been exciting to watch. I keep seeing the heavy equipment on the bridge and thinking, I was just up there in May and now that driver is the last commuter who will get that view.

Pleasantly surprised so far
We'll see if the flow holds up with the college and school bus traffic resumes in a few weeks, but I think it should steadily improve going forward. If people were prevented from blocking the box, that would go a long way, but I guess that's true everywhere.
Casey Overpass is coming down reasonably fast
Feels like it was just May when it was all in one piece and three months most of it is gone. Oh that the road construction goes this smoothly (and quickly), I live just below Shea Circle and am thrilled to see that they have cut down the trees on the rotary, visibility is greatly improved. I even had the positive experience of contacting MassDOT about poor parking choices for bridge workers that made it impossible to turn out of the circle to the backside of Morton Street. Two days later they were no longer parking there.
It's down!
I'm truly impressed with how quickly this project is moving. Even this section is down as of this morning. There's still a small portion of the overpass up just west of South St. but it's open sky above all the surface roads now.

You realize even more how much it divided FH from the rest of JP now that it's mostly gone. Being able to see down South Street from the upper bus depot area is a welcome change.

Which means it's where cars will park. And there will be several valet stations that will occupy any additional space.

What would have been cool would have been a pedestrian overpass from Forrest Hills to the Corridor.
I assume it would have required more space than available to accommodate the very long ramp to get up to truck clearance height though and would have cost too much though.
headhouse coming
IIRC, there will be a new headhouse on the Corridor side so you won't need to cross the street.
Hopefully it will stay nice like the one at Back Bay from Copley Place and not be stinky and creepy like the same tunnel pre-DNC-induced renovation.
This morning was a traffic nightmare
Ended up walking from the lumber place on Washington Street to Forest Hills, and barely got the connection to the Commuter Rail.
Looks like I'm getting the more expensive pass to climb on the train at one of the earlier stops. Probably West Rox so I can actually SIT! (That's another whiny thread...)

...came thru on a bike on HP ave at 730a: no traffic from Walk Hill to the underpass...guess it is just a matter of perspective (and timing) but the traffic, like water, appears to have found its equilibrium...
I read this post this morning
Before beginning my insane (since I had choices, I was insane to insist on) walk to Forest Hills at noontime. There definitely was a traffic SNAFU at Ukraine Way. It seemed odd to me that blocking the right turn lane (they were digging, but why I cannot figure out) would make things so bad, even for the traffic going the other way.
Also, for some reason the guy who sets up the detour barriers is sadistic. They block the same intersection on the north/west side, which would be okay except for the buses that need to get to the station. Every other night doesn't have this issue, but there is Tuesday, just sitting there, screwing with the traffic.
It was backed up this morning
It was backed up this morning around 7:30 at that same spot going towards JP. Probably added an additional 8-10 minutes onto the commute via car. The issue that remains unresolved and has nothing to do with construction is the cars and taxis blocking that right hand travel line next to the upper busway on Washington. The double parking during rush hour really slows things down in the morning. No one appears interested in dealing with it and neither the cars nor taxis seem to care.
It took about 40 minutes...
... to get from Metropolitan and Poplar to Forest Hills this morning -- on the 50 Bus (8:25 until 9:05)..
