City Council not opposed to medicinal marijuana dispensary on Harvard Avenue in Allston

City councilors who have been saying for more than three years that they want to comply with the will of the people have finally voted to formally not oppose a marijuana dispensary - proposed for 230 Harvard Ave. in Allston.

Councilor Mark Ciommo (Allston/Brighton) said the Mayflower Medicinals proposal is the first one he's felt comfortable in telling state regulators he is "not opposed." He said Mayflower is made up of "a professional team" in both medicine and marijuana and that he is satisfied the site would be "safe for patients, neighbors and surrounding community."

Fellow councilors then voted unanimously to send the state a letter of non-opposition.

The proposal needs the approval of both state regulators and the Boston Zoning Board of Appeals - which had earlier approved a dispensary on Milk Street downtown.
