Coast Guard charts are mean high tide clearance. That ship's probably been through there a thousand (well, maybe less, but...) so there's only one reason...

Worst part is, that's probably what happened. I don't know the tidal time difference between the two sides of the canal, but hey why not?

Next time, I bet they wait an hour or so.

Viking Star was actually

Viking Star was actually brand new, entering service last year in Europe. This is its first voyage to the U.S. It is part of a cruise line that is a sister line to Viking River Cruises, the ones famously advertised during Downton Abbey.
