DA: Teen whose body was found in East Boston marsh was murdered
Carlos Villatoro-Nunez, 16, of East Boston, whose body was found in Belle Isle Marsh on Dec. 9, was likely stabbed to death, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
The announcement that his death is being treated as a homicide makes him the sixth teen to be found murdered in East Boston since September, 2015.
"Investigators do not believe Villatoro-Nunez’ death was random," the DA's office says, stopping short, however, of tying his death to gang activity. Alleged members of the MS-13 gang have been charged with three of the other murders.
Identifying the cause of Villatoro-Nunez's death was hampered by the state of decomposition of his body. His family had reported him missing on Nov. 13.
