Hawk takes up perch in Green Street Orange Line station

This hawk was perched near the elevator in the Green Street station in Jamaica Plain this morning.

Easy Pickins?
Saw a similar bird perched outside Forest Hills not all that long ago. There are quite a few ( a "cast of hawks") that seem to circle the Arboretum and vicinity. Green is well within their hunting territory.
Forest Hills has plenty of mice and maybe Green does as well.
That said... with all of the breakdowns on the OL maybe they see easy pickins with riders that fail from being stranded. They prefer to hunt but in tough times they will delve into a carcass.
Tons of red tails
in the area--there's a pair I see often near Green St and lots up in Franklin Park--they like to hang out by the stadium and survey the open areas. Plenty of squirrels and probably rats too.
Feasting on squirrel
I saw a red tail feasting on a fresh squirrel in the Fenway Victory Garden this summer. The hawk parked himself on a fence post and tore into the tasty squirrel. He left the remains of fur and bones hanging on the fence post and left.
Btw , I ate a squirrel once, but it was cooked not raw. Predictably, it tasted like chicken.

Beautiful hawk. But, why does no one ever compliment the rigid pipe with the red coupling that one of our skilled union tradesperson installed when that station was being built? (Only said with half a tongue in cheek)!
The red coupling was probably the only part
the tradesperson had when they were installing the conduit.
Finally, something the T's good at
attracting hawks.

There's
Hawks these days don't just wait for a mouse or rat there often seen snacking on other birds, look up into the sky sometimes, they soar high and chase other birds that think it's safe to hangout on wires or in trees.
