By adamg on Tue, 05/31/2016 - 11:34am
UPDATE, 1:15 p.m. Jules Wang reports debit and credit cards work with fare machines again.
The T reports:
Credit/Debit card sales are temporarily unavailable at all stations and online at mbta.com. Purchases can continue to be made at retail sales locations.

Good timing
Last day of the month they announce this.
10+ years into the CharlieSystem...
...and it still crashes during the month-end pass purchase rush.
Best thing about switching to online (to get the monthly Commuter Rail Charlie Cards) is not having to wonder if the machine is going to work for my $265 (for now) charge...
Charlie is still 'Coming Soon
Charlie is still 'Coming Soon!' to the MBTA
Not to mention
The machines that take cash are limited and often "quirky."
Like giving change in those
bizarre "feels like a quarter, weighs the same as a quarter, but it's really a dollar if you look at it closely enough" coins. Quirky indeed.
Fixed
Just got an alert indicating that "the temporary problem" (yes, those were the T's exact words) has been resolved.
I gave up trying to pay
I gave up trying to pay online because it after working for 3 months suddenly started refusing my payment. The online help and even the Charlie store could not rectify the problem. So I have to get my monthly pass at a station/outlet.the Charlie store is inconvenient for me.
Because the T sucks and will always be an inefficient chaos prone cluster puck of epic proportions.
