Boston.com reports on a court transcript related to the death of Cristofer Perez de la Cruz, 16, whom local MS-13 members allegedly found in the central Mass. area where he'd been relocated by police after he agreed to testify against MS-13 members, then killed him and dumped his body on Falcon Street in East Boston.

"These", as if they are a monolith (though gangs probably are closer to one than most). Literally these people in the article, they did not target anyone random. And yes, I have read about them, and I even live blocks away from where this poor soul's body was dumped. I hear of incidents, but I don't hear of there being waves of attacks against random people. I don't view them in a special light that I wouldn't also lump the heroin zombies in the city.
Now don't get me wrong, those in the gangs appear to be bad people, but unlike the mafia in decades past, I don't see the Salvadoran community rallying to protect the "one of ours" like the 2nd and 3rd and 4th generation Italians do when defending the honor of the filth that was La Cosa Nostra.

Maybe it was a typo in the court transcripts she's writing from, but get familiar with your geography. There isn't even a Brenan Street in all of Boston. Killing someone in a Bremen Street apartment (BREE-men) is a bit shocking since that's such a main thoroughfare in the n'hood.

I was raised in East Boston and I always heard it pronounced "BREE-man" St. What really bothers me is when people say "TREE-mont" St. It's one thing for tourists (who also say "Cope-ly" Square), but when locals do it, it's unforgivable.

I used to work in East Boston. Every single one of the people who I worked with who was raised in East Boston (we're talking lots of people) said BREE-man. They were, er, not bashful about correcting people who said it another way, and many made it clear that you were identifying yourself as a "newcomer" if you did so.

International criminal organizations are not your friendly neighborhood pot dealer. They do not shy away from dealing in hard drugs, guns, and the sex trade. Legalizing and regulating marijuana will cut into overall profits, but not enough to put them out of business. However, removing a large customer base from these kinds of criminals would have other benefits. Fewer nonviolent pot smokers clogging up the justice system. Fewer people exposed to victimization by criminal elements. Increased tax revenue.
We'll never completely eliminate organized crime, but a prohibition on marijuana is not helpful.

I count two Massachusetts news stories today (one in Eastie, one on the Cape) involving people who were murdered for their testimony in court. How many witnesses are murdered each year?

The current "system" isn't working to get rid of gangs (terrorists). These terrorist gangs keep coming back out of jail, selling drugs, living in places that taxpayers pay for, raping, pimping, torturing, and murdering, and then hopping on a plane to hide in some far away land if they feel it's time to lay low from the authorities. More than weed needs to be decriminalized and regulated, we need to get serious about gun control, and the copious amounts of victims of these trades need help recovering from drug addiction, abuse and poverty, etc. But hey, it's way more lucrative to run around blowing up other countries to "save" their people.
