Murdered teen was kidnapped first, had hand cut off, court records say

Boston.com reports on a court transcript related to the death of Cristofer Perez de la Cruz, 16, whom local MS-13 members allegedly found in the central Mass. area where he'd been relocated by police after he agreed to testify against MS-13 members, then killed him and dumped his body on Falcon Street in East Boston.

I'm not certain there was anywhere safe for him, other than a location with an full time armed guard.

What happened to this murdered teen is disgusting. It's reminiscent of what ISIS is doing to its hostages.

...it's reminiscent of a Soprano's episode.

They're just La Cosa Nostra with more tattoos.

But I'd much rather have wiseguys roaming Eastie (like the Old days) than MS-13s. They at least didn't go around robbing random citizens.

Just say you'd rather have whiter criminals roaming the streets. You're whitewashing the terror that the mafia spread through the city for decades. Rather it be "random citizens", it was everyone opening a business, or trying to be part of the community.

And I'm trying to figure out how you read this sad story and made the leap that they're targeting random people.

It's not a very far leap...these gang members are targeting innocent people. Have you done any research on MS-13 or 18th st??? Awful awful people.

"These", as if they are a monolith (though gangs probably are closer to one than most). Literally these people in the article, they did not target anyone random. And yes, I have read about them, and I even live blocks away from where this poor soul's body was dumped. I hear of incidents, but I don't hear of there being waves of attacks against random people. I don't view them in a special light that I wouldn't also lump the heroin zombies in the city.

Now don't get me wrong, those in the gangs appear to be bad people, but unlike the mafia in decades past, I don't see the Salvadoran community rallying to protect the "one of ours" like the 2nd and 3rd and 4th generation Italians do when defending the honor of the filth that was La Cosa Nostra.

"Appear to be bad people? One killer isn't worse than the other. They are all scum. Gang members choose the life they are not innocent.

Or if you'd read the damn article you'd know the choice isn't that simple. This kid chose not to join the gang and ended up dead. Life isn't always as black and white as you're trying to paint it.

You are kidding yourself if you romanticize the mafia. People like you allowed for the corruption in the old neighborhoods.

Of course, some crime apologist is going to long for the good ol' days...before the yuppies moved in, paid taxes and obeyed the law.

What do "yuppies" have to do with this discussion??? Why throw that in there?

But it's actually happening in our streets, and not just on TV.

Although horrible it's a little different. He was in a rival gang.

They should have sent him to Milwaukee with a new name. But he would still spend a lot of time looking over his shoulder.

but I bet he was somehow in touch with folks from the old neighborhood (there's usually a girl involved) and revealed where he was. That or there's a mole in the police force.

“Someone that causes harm, they deserve harm,” Perez said, according to court documents.

Well said, you frigging hypocrite.

de la Cruz was killed at an apartment on "Brenan Street in East Boston"...?

Maybe it was a typo in the court transcripts she's writing from, but get familiar with your geography. There isn't even a Brenan Street in all of Boston. Killing someone in a Bremen Street apartment (BREE-men) is a bit shocking since that's such a main thoroughfare in the n'hood.

"Oh no one knows what goes on behind closed doors." Indeed Mr. Rich.

It's pronounced like Brennan with an M (from what I've heard). Though the Germans would pronounce it more like "bray-man", but they'd also hate what the locals did with Frankfurt, both in pronunciation and spelling (though that's neither here nor there).

I was raised in East Boston and I always heard it pronounced "BREE-man" St. What really bothers me is when people say "TREE-mont" St. It's one thing for tourists (who also say "Cope-ly" Square), but when locals do it, it's unforgivable.

I used to work in East Boston. Every single one of the people who I worked with who was raised in East Boston (we're talking lots of people) said BREE-man. They were, er, not bashful about correcting people who said it another way, and many made it clear that you were identifying yourself as a "newcomer" if you did so.

Parochial Boston at its best (i.e., worst, but maybe somewhat charming).

And the German pronunciation, I've been told is bree-men as well. Which might explain why people raised in the n'hood pronounce it that way.

I mean if you want to drive up to "Cal-iss" Maine and tell them all it's pronounced "cuh-LAY" I'm more than happy to help you extract the lobster from your anus.

Will legalizing weed help drive these people out of business?

International criminal organizations are not your friendly neighborhood pot dealer. They do not shy away from dealing in hard drugs, guns, and the sex trade. Legalizing and regulating marijuana will cut into overall profits, but not enough to put them out of business. However, removing a large customer base from these kinds of criminals would have other benefits. Fewer nonviolent pot smokers clogging up the justice system. Fewer people exposed to victimization by criminal elements. Increased tax revenue.

We'll never completely eliminate organized crime, but a prohibition on marijuana is not helpful.

No, legalizing weed will not put them out of business because gangs sell guns, heroin, crack, powder, and young women ..all very lucratively.

Sanctuary in Somerville if they want out of East Boston.

I count two Massachusetts news stories today (one in Eastie, one on the Cape) involving people who were murdered for their testimony in court. How many witnesses are murdered each year?

Funny, some of the media (and I don't mean you, Adam) doesn't seem to take this shit seriously ENOUGH. Nor does our existing government take it seriously ENOUGH. The current "system" isn't working to get rid of gangs (terrorists). These terrorist gangs keep coming back out of jail, selling drugs, living in places that taxpayers pay for, raping, pimping, torturing, and murdering, and then hopping on a plane to hide in some far away land if they feel it's time to lay low from the authorities. Oh, did I forget lurking around our schools to snatch up another scared student to use as one of their puppets?

up

And it's not just when they're out of jail. Gangs thrive there as well. There have even been ms-13 tags found on military bases. More than weed needs to be decriminalized and regulated, we need to get serious about gun control, and the copious amounts of victims of these trades need help recovering from drug addiction, abuse and poverty, etc. But hey, it's way more lucrative to run around blowing up other countries to "save" their people.
