Now that the Globe's got a handle on its circulation problems, a state rep reminds them about Globe Direct
By adamg on Wed, 01/20/2016 - 6:49pm
The State House News Service reports state Rep. Denise Provost (D-Somerville) is sponsoring a bill to fine Globe Direct and other direct marketers up to $1,500 if they keep sending their stuff to people who ask them to stop.
[Provost] unloaded a heap of Globe Direct mailers before the Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure, saying they had accrued around her doorstep after she attempted to be removed from the distribution list.
The Globe recently began switching Globe Direct from private deliverers to the postal service.

Can we somehow get the legislation
to include e-mail scammers as well. And the $1,500 fine should be a minimum instead of "up to."
Nice idea
But impossible to do.
The FTC tries to do some of this but the problem is.. between free VPN services, TOR, and other anonomizing services, it's impossible. Plus many of them use spyware on other people's computers to use those as mail relays, so the emails appear to be coming from somewhere else when in reality it may be someone clear across the globe (i.e. Trojan Horses). It's just too hard to track and locate them.
And many of them come from outside the US, from fun countries whos governments could get a rats ass assisting US officials to find these creeps. (i.e. Nigeria, Russia, etc)
Just look at Nigerian Email scams for an example on how little can be done about it. People have been milked out of thousands of dollars and the Gov't can't do crap because Nigeria's government is so corrupt and could care less.

You forgot the "in theory"
You forgot the "in theory" part.
Ha, ha, ha
You're so funny.
Seriously, though, track down Adam's link to the Better Business Bureau. You might as well start there, since you're just going to end up there.
Definitely an "in theory"
Definitely an "in theory" thing - I've unsub'd there several times several months apart, and still get them regularly.
When's Rep. Provost
Going to do something about how thezak got screwed the last time he bought a mattress?
That's the real travesty here.
Wait, what?
The Globe has a handle on it's delivery problems?
Not here. No Sunday Globes, 3 weeks running. Where do they all go?
I don't know, but I got a coupon!
In my Val-u-Pak envelope of coupons today. I guess they need more subscribers to replace everyone who isn't getting their paper.
Not IMO
We only subscribe to the Sunday paper and haven't had any delivered since the "new service" began.
I'd like to start getting my morning paper in the morning
The circulation problems are ameliorated, somewhat, but definitely not fixed. Our paper shows up mid-afternoon. The news really is stale by the time we have a chance to read it.
The Globe should have hired
The Globe should have hired the Globe Direct people to handle regular deliveries. Blizzard? Globe direct on top of the mound in the morning. Hurricane? Don't worry the Globe Direct is waiting for you. 110 degrees out? You get two Globe Directs! I would go away for a few days and come back to a porch full of Globe Directs for all three floors of the Triple Decker (I was the one who just brushed them all into recycling on a daily basis) , it reminded me of that scene in Fantasia where the brooms kept dumping water in the castle.
Haven't seen one since the changeover
I was expecting Adam to write about these halcyon days where the Globe is too focused on getting the newspaper delivered to even bother with Globe Direct. I can't remember the last GD I got. I thought they had suspended GD until they get their sh*t together.
BTW, my Globe delivery is somewhat variable (one day the porch, one day the lawn) but it's there by 6:45am so I'm not complaining.
I just thought of something
Today is Thursday. The ads are usually with the Thursday Globe. I got my Globe today, but no ads.
Honestly, I don't know the proper way to complain about this. I mean, I want to make sure that there aren't 2 baggies under my car with ads, but we do kind of like getting the ads with the paper.
