About 18 hours after somebody was hit and killed by a commuter-rail train in Chelsea, somebody has been hit and killed by another train, this time by an Amtrak train in downtown Ashland. Transit Police report a man, 62, was hit and killed by the train at Front Street around 1:50 p.m..

Sad - but also wondering if there analysis available?
Seems like a lot of these incidents like this in 2017. Has anyone seen any reporting or analysis regarding how many of these are people trying to hurry past a crossing? How many are merely oblivious people who didn't see or hear the train? How many are suspected suicides? How many victims were impared?
I can see any of the above happening, but am really curious how the stats break out.
Headphones? I remember one
Headphones? I remember one years (12?) ago in Chelsea. The girl was walking to the high school on a very cold morning with her hood pulled up tight around her head and she was wearing headphones, I believe. Could've been anyone's kid.
There does seem to be an uptick in these.
Agree, but the plural of anecdotes
The plural of anecdotes isn't data.
And yes, I agree that people buried in phones or head-phones could be a factor.
But so could heroin, homelessness, or a million other things including pure randomness.
Would still love to see aggregate data from recent years, as well as trends over time.
