By adamg on Sat, 03/11/2017 - 11:44pm
A concerned citizen looks up at Gloucester and Marlborough streets in the Back Bay, sees a broom and wants the city to do something about it.

City of Boston should bill
City of Boston should bill the resident who called, if she or he wants the city to remove broom from tree let he or she pay for it, after all residents of Marlborough street have deep pockets.
Hah.
I bet the residents of Marlborough Street would gladly agree to take care of management of their street in exchange for forgiveness of property tax bills.
You sound like someone from Mississippi complaining about the cost of the big dig.
Well...
that's a stereotype for sure. I lived next to that intersection for a little while and I sure don't have deep pockets.
Ha, indeed
Well, Dave, thanks so much for checking out my pockets but if you think they are deep I'm sorry to say you are mistaken.
It's Just A Broom, Gladys — There's No Witch In The Tree
Hey lady,
ain't ya never seen a squirrel's space saver?
Wrong agency
Despite what Elmer said, this is a job for the FAA.
Just wait until the leaves

City liability?
I'm curious as to the City's liability, if someone happens to be walking below and the broom suddenly falls out of the tree and hits the person.
Where do we, as a society, draw the line
regarding liability? It's out of control.
You want the broom removed? Do it yourself. Or wait for nature to take it's course.
I don't get this at all
Look at the 311 ticket.
Nobody's demanding a response; they're pointing out that there's a broom in the tree. Part of what the Parks department does is clean up trash, maintain and prune trees, care for plantings, etc. Pulling a broom down from a tree seems to be squarely within their bailiwick. This ticket reminds them that next time they're out in that neighborhood with a bucket truck, they might grab that broom while they're there.
Isn't this exactly what the 311 system is supposed to be for?
I was half expecting the 311
I was half expecting the 311 post to contain that sort of concern for public safety.
At least it's not a frying pan!
That's like a seeing a blown tire on the side of the road.
Not that unusual. Particularly in October.
Very much like that.
And if you call the highway department or the state police and let them know, they don't accuse you of abusing the reporting system, they thank you for taking the time to call it in, note the location, and let the crew responsible for maintaining that stretch of highway know to pick it up.
Chalk up one more
Yet another silly-ass abuse of the 311 system.
I just looked at the current (Sunday) postings on the 311 app and you can clearly see one yahoo that walked down Mass Ave and complained about every nit that could be picked. Some valid, some not.
Remarkable.
How so?
311 isn't for immediate life-threatening emergencies, it's for stuff that needs fixing -- burned out streetlights, graffiti, spilled trash, sick trees that need care, potholes, missing signs, etc. Triaging reports and sorting them into " needs fixing now -- needs a truck roll," "needs fixing sooner or later -- get to it on next scheduled service that area," and "wontfix" is exactly what the system is designed to do, and it's entirely capable of that.
Have some respect!
An elderly member of the NABB was likely injured here and you are all worrying about the debris and whether or not it is important!
