Lots of teens spill into North End; Boston cops, staties follow them in

Hundreds of teens descended on the North End, some from the J. Cole concert at the Garden. Squads of Boston police officers and state troopers patrolled the neighborhood from Columbus Park to the skating rink.

The Globe article ends with only a rumor, quoting one person, which doesn't help answer my question:

Judy Medeiros, a feast attendee from Everett, said she had heard that a large group of youths had organized a flash mob in the North End, and that’s what police were reacting to.

“They went up to the band and told them they had to shut it down,” she said. “That was that.”

Someone probably sexted a emoji while Facegraming an Instatweet and next thing you know, BAM! Gonna be a rumble in Brighton tonight!

Why would police want to interfere with one? I'd love to see what idea they were trying to execute.

Ummm... Flash mobs has two meanings. The one you're thing about the is one we like we use like random improv, funny skits, or pillow fights (my personal favorite that Boston that the organizers has stop doing for the last few years sadly). From the wording, it sounds like it might be the other flash mob that the media co-opted to their use.

Edit: Actually, checking more background on this. Flash mob here might be used in a way that isn't in use at all - not performance art or that article, but clearing out a ton of teens coming out of a concert and milling around.

Hundreds of troublemakers repelled from the North End by the police and ordered to disperse and ride the MBTA out of the city. T-spokesperson will report no problems no delays and no fights . Either this whole incident was blown way out of proportion or the T-spokesperson is lying his butt off when trouble ride the MBTA.

I wouldn't say there were hundreds of troublemakers, but there absolutely were hundreds of teens and young adults in Copps Hill Terrace, Langone Park, and on Commercial Street last night. Many of them were drinking, and there were several fights, albeit seemingly minor ones. Having seen at least a couple incidents, the response really wasn't out of proportion. There were massive crowds, and they were more than a little out of control.

I've seen plenty of teenagers at these. Why is it a problem now?

Teenagers at the feast aren't a problem, nor are ruly crowds. Hundreds of teenagers (and young adults) drinking in public, being loud, littering, and getting in fights, however, is definitely a problem worthy of note. That's what happened last night in the parks near the feast.

To reflect the fact that virtually all the teens were already in the North End before the concert got out.

I've seen other places trying to attribute to this to the concert, and that seems like a rather spurious claim. There were hundreds of kids and young adults in the area of Copps Hill Terrace and Langone Park just after 9 PM, and that's when at least one fight occurred. The concert started at 8, and the headliner likely wasn't even on yet at that point. Pinning this on “people at TD Garden for a rap concert” is rather troubling, when it doesn't seem to match the reality of the situation.

...maybe if these little shits werent potty trained by the radio, etc, they wldnt even like this crap. Im a hip hop fan of the 90's hip hop. These kids wldnt stand a chance at a Wu Tang concert circa 95, no effing way. They'd get robbed of every damn thing on their person!

I Love J Cole and pretty upset that anyone would attribute that chaos to his concert.

He is music has great messages behind it and it you don't like it or take offense to it you're probably an old whi... Nvm. ..
