Silver car sought for cyclist hit-and-run in the Back Bay

Car wanted for Back Bay hit and run

Boston Police have released surveillance photos of the car whose driver hit a bicyclist in the Back Bay and then just drove off, leaving his or her victim with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver of the silver car hit the bicyclist at Commonwealth Avenue and Clarendon Street around 3:30 a.m. The car should have damage on the roof near the windshield area on the driver's side, police say.

If you see a car like that, contact detectives at 617-343-4470 or the anonymous tip line by calling 800-494-TIPS or by texting TIP to CRIME (27463).

My downstairs neighbor has a silver Lexus and the shot of it from behind looks exactly like what I see in our driveway.

You should be telling this to the police, not a message board.

It has the right size of logo on the front. Right shape, too.

which is similar to the newer (2012+) Focus. But I think you're right about the logo on the front being a Ford.

No way it's a Ford or anything else. The Lexus ES is pretty similar but I'm pretty sure that's a Camry.

I agree, it looks like a camry. Here's a picture of one:

Maybe there were parts left behind at the scene that they could use to ID the make/model, beyond that blurry photo?

do city cameras really not have high enough resolution to capture license plate information?

Most likely not, it's not like there's enough money in the budget to update them every few years. Besides, unless you're staring directly at the cars toll-style, it will be hard to see the letters. I can't give you the exact "you need the letters to be this much in height in pixels to be legible and that happens at this distance for these resolutions" chart, but if you stand with a 1280x960 camera on an overpass in clear daylight, plates will STILL be really hard to read.
