Roches Bros in West Roxbury is turning itself into a Wegmans by the day. I hadn't been in there for maybe 3 weeks and it's so different! I fear change...

Diapers in the cereal aisle.

A deli section the size of Jimmy's.

Giant square pastry counters.

The mind reels...

haha.

Yes Market Basket has joined 1997 with the likes of a website. Looks like MB hired a Social Media Manager,as their twitter and FB accounts are active with a live person. I was taken back, I thought it was another fan account.

Glad to see it. According to the Globe article, it was the #1 customer requested item but always has been low priority on their list as they prefer face to face customer interaction.

I kinda feel sorry for the MyDemoulas.net guy now.. all his traffic goes away.

I love that they offer two versions of the weekly flyer: a digital version with scrolling and drop-down menu, and a pdf file of the full-color, multi-page print version, for those who prefer to browse page by page, thank you very much.

I always hated going to Market Basket. The crowds weren't worth it. That was then... Since moving and finding new places to shop, I gotta say the Market Basket in Revere is my favorite store! It's better than other MB locations in the area, with the exception maybe of Chelsea.

Where else can you grab a HUGE pizza for $9 and its pretty good for the price. Their takeout food is good, and forget about the produce! I drool when I get to the produce section. Fresh vegetables and fruits (many locally grown) and some that I've never even heard of. I also notice they sell local products, be it breads or snacks. For a while they had some pita chips made from a bakery in Haverhill that were out of this world.

The employees know their inventory and all seem to really like their job.

I am a true convert and hate having to go anywhere else. I may frequent their web site to check out the weekly flyer since mine comes the day after grocery shopping day.

I've been shopping at Market Basket for decades now.. it really is about a strategy when you shop. Different stores are busier at different times. I find mornings (~7am) and post-7pm time during the week, and 7-9am on the weekends are the best times. Of course its going to be busier at the beginning of the month than at the end.

And yes, Market Basket does have a lot of local products from local vendors. This is why the boycotts a few years ago were so detrimental to our region, so many local businesses were effected. Plus many of their store brand products are made by local vendors too. Market Basket just understands (and is apart of its business model) good community connections help your business grow.

And MB is always willing to give new local products a chance.. a good case study is Ken's Dressings. I guess Ken was selling out of trunk of his car in the 60s. He approached the Demoulas family about selling it in their stores. They said "OK, one store". One store turned into two, two into four.. and then it was chain wide. Now Ken's is a national leader in salad dressing. Who knew Market Basket had a hand in making Ken's a success. (Source: We Are Market Basket movie)

If they had a product you liked.. ASK the manager. Its one of the things I love about Market Basket. The staff is so receptive to suggestions. I fell in love with certain products that went away.. so I asked for them back and got them back. Just ask.

And as far as the flyer and I've been saying this for years. Go to the customer service counter and ask for a flyer form. Fill it out, and they will mail you a flyer. Comes mid-week before the same for me.
