Japan on Boston Common
By adamg on Mon, 04/30/2018 - 2:13pm
Michael Kerpan took in the annual Japan Festival on the Common yesterday. He took lots of photos and reports:
Despite the extremely variable weather yesterday, the event seemed reasonably well attended. As usual, a lot of interesting food, vendors, performers and attendees.

I'm glad he's still kicking. Haven't seen him in comments in years.
Any Protests?
Any well-intentioned non Japanese show up to save the festival from cultural appropriation?
When every day is Kimono Day
why take time out of a weekend to protest?
No protests.
Lots of kimono wearers, lots Japanese, others not. The Japanese offered a number of opportunities for non-Japanese to dress Japanese -- as a samurai and as a JAL hostess (among others).
An immense array of Japanese food -- far more diverse than at the earliest festivals.
Typo
I should hope so.
Will...
... fix. (When Adam has time, I guess).
Maybe they should move the date -
the weather was lousy for last year's, too.
This is Boston...
We could get snow in May -- if that's what Mother Nature decides to do. In any event, this is timed to (try to) coincide with the blooming of cherry trees. ;-)
