Protesting ICE on Father's Day at a Suffolk County jail
One of the ways the Suffolk County Sherrif's Department makes money is to rent cells at the South Bay jail to ICE (a program started well before the current administration in Washington).
This afternoon, activists gathered outside the jail on Bradston Street for a vigil to protest the way the government is now ripping children from asylum-seeking parents at the border. Beth Chaplin reports:
Heartbreaking to see the people inside waving back at us, with signs that said "thank you".

US Rep Joe Kennedy, meanwhile, spent Father's Day in a march to the tent camp in Texas the government has set up for some of the children it's taken from their parents.

Not everyone can afford to
Not everyone can afford to send their home-groomed victims to Vermont.
WTF?
Is this supposed to mean?
Really?
I have seen that exact quote 9 or 10 times yesterday on different websites,is there a memo or something going around on how to use inflammatory language to make a political point.
This program has been going on for years, people show up at our border with children that they can't prove are theirs and we are supposed to do what?
Not a new program
Sure, hate the program and the policy, but don't pretend that this is new under the current administration. This policy has been going on under the Obama administration as well.
Of course that does not make it better or ideal.
\\ facts matter and better your argument
You're right. Facts matter. You are parroting a lie.

“It was a simple decision by the administration to have a zero tolerance policy for illegal entry, period. The message is that no one is exempt from immigration law.”
Yes...Obama did it. He sent instructions in an email to Hillary
using a muslim password supplied by ISIS.
Ok, I hear you, but just
Ok, I hear you, but just because Obama did it doesn't make it right.
"This Program has been going on for years"
Is a lie parroted by you and other trolls in the Trump administration, but Stephen Miller says something different and actually brags about it. It's a deliberate policy change initiated by the Trump administration intending to deter people from attempting to cross the border. They're torturing children as a deterrent. Think about that.
Read a paper once in awhile before you ask if other people are just spreading talking points:

So now it's torture
Tomorrow will it be tantamount to ethnic cleansing and genocide, and next week it will be the moral equivalent of global thermonuclear war? You know, the thing that started as (by your own quotation of your own source) a policy of "no one is exempt from immigration law."
Or do we have one set of laws for WASPs, one set of laws for white Mexicans, another set of laws for brown Mexicans, a third set of laws for Jews, and the stockade for Jews who don't vote hard-left?
Any way you try to cut it, Roman, it still a pile of sh*t...
"But there is no law requiring the government to separate undocumented immigrants from their parents, least of all one passed by Democrats. In reality children are getting separated from their families because of Trump's own policies that call for every undocumented immigrant caught at the border to be prosecuted, causing families to be separated. Trump's own Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III threatened to anyone who is thinking about crossing the border illegally: "If you smuggle illegal aliens across our border, then we will prosecute you. If you are smuggling a child, then we will prosecute you and that child will be separated from you as required by law."
https://www.diversityinc.com/news/trump-uses-kids-as-pawns-for-immigration
Roman, repeat after me, "There is no law." "There is no law". "There is...."
Just so I have it straight
It's all bad, what Sessions said? It's a bad thing that the US government has a policy of prosecuting all child smugglers to the full extent of the law?
You really need to step back, breathe, read your post, and ask yourself before you hit 'submit' if you're actually advancing an argument, or even clarifying your position when you post nonsense like that.
If you hop the fence you will be prosecuted.
Children are not allowed in adult detention centers.
Neither one of those is immoral, illegal, or bad policy.
Just so we have it straight
In your world, people are "parents" when they're white, and "child smugglers" when they're brown?
Especially so
when those white, brown, black, yellow, red, green, and blue people have a kid in tow while they are illegally crossing an international border without prior permission from the country they are entering.
Hey Roman
Where are all these green and blue people? They don't exist. This is a classic deflection by someone who doesn't want to address racism.
What's off Roman is not that
What's off Roman is not that you are literally wrong. It's that you choose to make *this* a battle. It tells us you are afraid of threats that are not real - and maybe as a result not paying attention to ones that are, like the dismantling of American healthcare and education by the same people encouraging you to be afraid of immigrants.
Well, we certainly have
a different set of laws for people who swindle millions from seniors, as some of us would be rotting in Federal prison for life and some of us get to be President.
See how that works in the law?
You seem confused by the tactics republicans use
every day.
These idiots
Don't know who they're waving at. It very well could be a child molester.
Next time
Inform the landscapers not to trim the tree's.
You wouldn't see them
This was started under Bush
Continued under Obama and now trump. Called "Operation Streamline."
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/separating-families-at-the-border-how-we-go...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Streamline
YOU'RE ALL WRONG!
Don't you even read your own citations?
Yes, Operation Streamline was started before the Trump administration. But neither the Bush nor Obama administration used it to separate families; even under that program, they kept the families detained together. Only the Trump administration has chosen to separate the children during detention for this program.
Zero Tolerance the Trump Way...
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/mcallen-texas-immigration-processin...
"The facility has spanned multiple presidential administrations but a new "zero tolerance" policy — which Trump's own top staff and Cabinet officials have explicitly said is causing children to be taken from their parents as part of an effort to deter border crossings — has turned the spotlight on it.
From Ursula, children will be sent to separate facilities run by the Department of Health and Human Services while their parents are sent to a detention center to await prosecution before a federal judge.
U.S. policy dictates that no one of any age should be kept in one of these processing centers longer than 72 hours. But because of the backlog at HHS centers for children, hundreds of minors are forced to stay past that limit."
Who is OK w/ Suffolk Sheriff's ICE scheme?
I wasn't aware of this before. Where's a good place to learn about how the Walsh Admin, Bos City Council and the MA State Legislature views this? Would also like Maura Healey's views.
Is it allowed to have outside people visit detainees to see if they have been involuntarily separated from their children? Is there an organized effort to investigate and report on this?
This is such a many-tentacled issue that I'm having a lot of difficulty keeping up. Appreciate that you covered this, Adam!
