Driver dies after car slams into Harvard Square tree

Cambridge Police report that around 4 a.m., a car crashed through a fence and into a tree on Harvard grounds at 1270 Massachusetts Ave. in Harvard Square.

The driver was pronounced dead at a local hospital; his passenger suffered serious injuries, police say.

As of rush hour, Massachusetts Avenue was still shut at Bow Street to allow for an investigation by Cambridge and State Police and the Middlesex County District Attorney's office.
