I worked at a couple locations, at the North Shore Mall and the Rockingham Park Mall, the first few years of college. They had an evocative "tarragon mayo" chicken salad sandwhich (which was freshly chopped up, warmed up pre-made grilled chicken) that isn't even on this menu from that time... https://web.archive.org/web/20000823065922/http://www.aubonpain.com/menu... ... and I learned all about frozen pucks of eggs for breakfast sandwiches, and frozen cartons of "fresh made lemonade"...
Au Bon Pain seems to be concentrating on institutional locations
such as airports, train stations, hospitals, and universities, rather than commercial storefronts or shopping malls, in recent years.

I remember back in the 80s when it seemed you couldn't throw a rock without hitting an ABP in DTX.
Anyone remember the square shaped muffins they had?

I know this isn't about the Harvard Square location, but I think it's such a shame what's happened to Harvard Square. A friend was there yesterday after being away for nearly two decades and she was horrified at how much it's changed. No more funky vibe.

Used to buy their chocolate croissants from the OBP in One Financial Center by South Station. Oh the delicious memories.
Never the same since HSq closed
Sure, the new space in the Holyoke Center is nice, and offers some open spaces to work, but ever since that ABP closed, they've never been the same. I'm not even sure I'd want to go to the airport locations now, the only ones I usually go by; it feels like the ABP those of us a certain age grew up with here is no more.

I worked at the Coffee Connection in the Garage in Harvard Square in the mid-80s. Loved it there, and that brief stint waitressing taught me work habits and skills that have stood me in good stead through decades of entirely different kinds of work. Not to mention what I learned about good coffee!

After Starbucks bought The Coffee Connection, they kept the Garage location open for many years, but it closed in February.

Coffee Connection paid much of the rent on my Somerville apartment in the late 80s, since most of my roommates worked there.

I used to go over to the location in the Garage and get a large cup before going over to the Brattle to watch a double feature. They never minded that I brought the coffee in so I didn't have to smuggle it in like Kramer.

in college and after i worked at various carts/stores in faneuil hall, and the staff at the CC in the food hall was the best! not much turnover, they knew all us cart folk and would hand us our 'regular' orders over the heads of tourists, sorta got to run a tab for a few days. good coffee, too, which was a bonus.

of Tremont and Stuart closed, I used to go to ABP when I needed to satisfy my urge for a meatloaf sandwich.
