and it astounds me that people are stupid (or desperate?) enough to rob a bank. The risk is high and tellers are trained and drilled to minimize the potential loss. If you're lucky, you'll (temporarily) get away with a couple grand, if that.
Oh, and you're automatically upping the ante by using (or even implying that you have) a weapon.

That's where the money is.

knocking over a convenience store or grocery store.

Was it loaded?
What was he going to do, climb over the window?

The tellers aren't paid to risk any kind of attack. Plenty of crimes have been committed just with a paper note (in fact, you might be better off with that, since then when you're caught you don't get weapons charges added on to your sentence).

The bank is insured and the losses are small. The bad PR and lawsuit should a customer or employee actually get hurt is far worse. Better to just hand over a few hundred in cash and let the police deal with the rest.

Well, he didn't invent the turtleneck, but he was the first to recognize its potential as a tactical garment for armed robbery.

Dot rat. We need to call the Kit Tastrophe clan to take out the trash.

We call that Wednesday.
