Truck driver takes out tree on Beacon Hill
By adamg on Mon, 03/25/2019 - 10:45am
Roving UHub photographer ELE happened upon this tree-smashing truck on Charles Street near Mt. Vernon St. on Beacon Hill this morning. No word if the driver was heading for Storrow Drive.
A tree-removal crew was quick to arrive:

same old story
trees just darting out into traffic....gotta learn to share the roads, my arboreal friends
BHAC take note
No doubt the Beacon Hill Architectural Commission will require the owner of the property to install a replacement tree of the same species and size.
It's a Street Tree
The City will replant it. Street trees don't belong to property owners. That's probably why the removal happened so fast, too.
it's really difficult
to get a "full sized tree" in one of those sidewalk spots. The root system for most trees expands as far (and usually a bit farther) than the branch canopy. Because of that, they need massive amounts of space for water.
When it's fully paved over like that, you simply can't plant a large tree. They have to start very small...and most of the large city trees started out with more ground coverage than they have now.
Highly unlikely that spot will get a big tree anytime soon...if ever. They have to use species that are smaller for these one-square-meter plots.
If you're a tree...
you've got to understand, cars are going to hit you.
How original
How original
And it just keeps gettin' funnier
Ah wouldn't it be nice
If it was original.
Until and unless bad driving becomes the focus of not killing people and trees, the mocking of MartyCarGuy1980called will continue.
Notice that the tree isn't wearing a helmet or neon/reflective clothing and was trying to pass the truck on the right.
MISSING TREE
Perfect 311 case
Missed headline opportunity
"One dead in tree-car crash on Charles Street at Beacon Hill"
Quick to blame
How do we know that the truck wasn't just parked there and the tree fell on it? Did the truck have front-end damage from running into the tree?
Tree saves pedestrians?
Maybe the brakes went out and the driver elected to take out a tree rather than pedestrians?
It could happen.
Charge the driver for the
Charge the driver for the cost of a new tree and all of the maintenance that goes with it for 5 years.
I knew I felt..
A disturbance in the force...’twas another Tree, taken—stolen from us far to early...that’s just a little less oxygen for the kids.
