Another new building approved for West Broadway in South Boston
The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved plans to replace a three-story building at 472 West Broadway in Perkins Square with a five-story building with 16 smallish residential units, spaces for 11 cars in a garage using a three-tier stacking system, and ground-floor retail space.
The BPDA approved the project earlier this month.
The project by developers Charles McCarthy and Patrick McDevitt, falls under the city's "compact living" pilot, in which developers can build units smaller than normally required. In this building, that will mean 13 two-bedroom units of up to 847 square feet, one-bedroom units of 588 and 617 square feet and a studio with 430 square feet.
Nobody spoke against the proposal, which would go next to a larger building to replace the current Dunkin' Donuts on the corner.

Right now
Today, its a vacated barber's shop (relocated to 1st St.) and the office space for Catamount Construction. If I were a betting man, I'd wager they're building out the property which they may or may not own, and will return to inhabit that space, and they'll for sure squeeze a mini-dunks in next door since the next closest one is either L or A, and god forbid someone need to move themselves more than half a mile. It might as well be in France.

I assume "Compact living"
I assume "Compact living" still means "no street parking for you, ever, even if your job moves to an office park or your mom moves to a nursing home in the suburbs, because we need to reserve street parking for people who lived here longer".
And 847 square feet for a 2 bedroom is by no means a tiny apartment. Why does that need special approval?
