Lots of teens gather at Allston park, stand on their cars

Around 4:45 p.m., a roving UHub correspondent reported something odd in the parking lot of Herter Park along the Charles in Allston: Lots and lots of teens on cars. Yes, on them, not in them.

Looking with a purpose, she added, but at what?
Some other correspondents, more hep to what the young folks are digging these days (yes, we are that old), had the answer.
Doogs and Gerald Burke report the kids, fresh off doing their park for making the Trump campaign miserable were there for an event by some TikTok notables.
More specifically, this band (yes, that's a Twitter link, yes, we are that old).
The event was originally scheduled for the Watertown Mall parking lot, but got shifted to Herter Park instead.

Got Home at 3
Was told daughter was gone with friends to see some Tik Tok Celebrities with one friend's mom driving.
Got on computer at 6. Saw this.
Called Daughter at 605. Heard Beatles / David Cassidy / Leif Garrett / NKOTB / Boy Band of the Year level screaming and not much else.
Call back just now, the band waved to them and gave them stuff. Hearts aflutter.
Looks like a repeat of the Green Day Riot of 94 may have been averted.
A cool teenage girl can take a break from Tame Impala and Tyler The Creator to scream at cute boys every once in a while.

I'm not sure you should be including the Beatles in that "boy band of the year" list. I may be just an old Boomer, but they were a little something more than that. Just sayin'.

Started out as a boy band. When they first played the Garden they said they would play longer if the girls didnt scream. They screamed. My friends older sister was in attendance. We were too young to go.

Don't these kids realize that they're putting themselves, each other, their families, friends and neighbors at risk for contracting the Covid-19 virus? They need to be told.

Reports back from my other child is that he was being looked at funny for walking around in the evening along the Hampton Beach strip for wearing one. Look for a Moo Hampshire / Merrimack Valley spike in a few days.
Not gonna happen
Amazing that we’re months into this thing and people think people are transmitting the virus to others, outside, in situations where they’re not literally making out with each other.
If the virus was transmitted that easily, EVERYONE that has spent more than 5 minutes in public since January would have it.
Everyone staying on their own
Everyone staying on their own car is a great way to enforce social distancing. Much better than people standing around in an open area being told, "yeah, stay six feet apart", which doesn't work.

They look like they are cruising to the beach to hang out at night. Or in a high school parking lot of any small west coast town from the 1950s through the 1980s.
People used to do just this to do just this.
Yes, but any small town USA really.
In our town we had a parking lot in the center of town all us teens called called "The Office". Was the only muni parking lot (at the time). We'd all park our cars there and just hang out. Not much else to do in a small New Hampshire town on a Friday night in the summer, especially after the drive in closed in 1988 and indoor Movie Theater in 1992.
Sometimes we'd do the "Claremont 500" which was start at The Office, head down Washington Street to Kmart Shopping Center, do a U-turn, head back toward town, by pass the office, and head down to Maple Ave to the Ames Dept Store shopping center, bang a U turn and head back to the office. Alternative was to continue to Claremont Jct, and take Plains/Twistback/Sullivan to the office again.
No idea why we did this but we did it anyways.
The Railroad Trestle
Please tell me you guys would dare each other to pull a Stand By Me and run across it. That would terrify the beallah out of me.
Nope
But we did have the high bridge, just like in Stand by Me. I know people went up there, as there were tags on the side of the bridge (insane to think how they did that). But no dares to run across it.
It was pretty remote to get to, although you could see it from Main Street/NH103 (as seen in this video looking west @ Vermont ). It just took a lot to get to that point (and required walking up at least a mile along the tracks from Plains Road.
And it didn't really go anywhere useful, just continued to follow 12A to Cornish and at some point cross the CT River. If you were going that way, you would be better off just following roads. Easier Terrain.
The irony of you bring this up is this was one of the first VHS tapes i owned. I think we wore the tape out we watched it so much. (mom didn't care they swore like truckers) . In 1986 we lived just south of Claremont, in a much smaller town. My mom often said that Castle Rock in the movie reminded her of Claremont in the 1960s. She identified with the movie quite a bit.

Our sleepy small NH town had its own serial killer dubbed the "Connecticut River Valley Killer:"
