Walsh declares public-health emergency; student meal and Chromebook distribution to start Tuesday
Will make it easier to fight virus and will let BPS to procure supplies and other things it needs to support students through April 27.
Walsh said that starting Tuesday, the city is setting up dozens of sites where BPS students or parents can pick up packaged meals. He added that students and parents will be directed to food distribution sites in their neighborhood, rather than near their schools.
Schools will also distribute packets of printed material that students can use to continue their education and that the city is providing free Chromebooks to students who need them - and is working with local ISPs to get free or low-cost service available to poor families.
Also, in addition to the Eliot School, the McKinley School will be shut tomorrow because a "non-student" member of the school community is being tested for Covid-19.
