When the state says parking is closed at Castle Island, they mean it

Castle Island parking lot blocked off

Nick Gemelli learned first hand today that the state wasn't kidding around about trying to reduce crowding in the time of coronavirus at Castle Island:

The state also blocked off parking all along Day Boulevard as well as at beaches in East Boston, Dorchester and Quincy.

Awesome. I often run in the road on that part anyway (it's super wide) but now I can more completely space out when I do.

Awesome for you and congrats! Not awesome for people with disabilities, but that's not your problem of course.

We should close MORE lots and streets to cars so there is more room for all people to safely social distance.

So people with disabilities who can't get to parks by bike and now car/ The Ride and can't walk several miles should be banned from city parks then?

Most people with disabilities of the sort that would keep them from parking some distance out and wheeling in are also people who should carefully consider being out in public at all, due to their health vulnerability.

Nothing keeps them from parking some distance away and rolling in just like people are walking in.

... the mayor and request that an area for handicapped parking only be established?
I don’t think anyone would oppose that.
You can also take a bus if the drivers are allowing wheelchairs in the front door.

What bus goes to Castle Island?

Second and P is not a reasonable walk for someone with mobility issues.

The last time Castle Island was sealed off like this was when Edgar Allan Poe was stationed there. Legend has it a soldier was sealed up in the fort which inspired Poe to write the Cask of Amontillado.
