Commuter-rail tracks flood in Union Square

Somerville City Councilor Ben Ewen-Campen captured the scene along the Fitchburg Line tracks, next to the impending Union Square Green Line stop, after this afternoon's drenching rain. Note the floating timbers.

This may not bode well
Could this be trouble for that part of the new Green Line extension in future downpours? Or is that wall (which I'm guessing separates those tracks from the commuter rail) enough to prevent most flooding problems?
Better
push back the Green Line extension another couple of years to make sure

There is still time for them to install a storm drain connection to the rest of that system nearby. It's an easy fix.

There already is a storm drain connection. It just got clogged up at some point.

The sediment control catch basin insert needed to be cleaned out? I would be very surprised if they didn't install them during construction. More often than not they forget to take them out when they're done and gone.
Anyway.
Not necessarily. The rails along that area are sitting on permeable surface - designed to allow the stormwater to drain away and recharge the soil. As we saw in followup images, the water did drain away. The new goal is to find a way to handle that volume of rain faster.
The best part about this? They're learning this now rather than when the tracks are in service.
