Covid rage: Woman kicks out bus window when asked to put on a mask, police say

Angry maskless woman

Transit Police report they are looking for a woman they say tried to board a bus in Chelsea without a mask on in Bellingham Square on Sunday and when asked to put one on responded with her toes of fury and kicked out the lower window of the bus's door.

If she looks familiar, contact detectives at 617-222-1050 or send an anonymous tip to 873873.

Some people run on hate. I don't know if it's because they desperately need to feel "better" than someone (or a group of people), or they want to feel powerful, or it's learned behavior, or what, but it's always pathetic/disgusting to see. Thanks for speaking up!

I was on your side, cheering you on, but by the end of your story all I can say is, “what makes you think you’re any better than her?”

Person 1 is exhibiting hatred toward ethnic groups, and verbally undermining their place/contribution in our society.

Person 2 is exhibiting hatred toward person 1, because of the ignorance & racism displayed, showing no value to the same society in which person 1 participates in/believes such ethic groups should not co-exist in.

I might not agree with the language chosen, but I agree with the overall intent.

We all think we're better than the people we disagree with. It's human nature.

La Colaborativa was based out of the EDs home on Clark, then Pan Y Cafe, then the LC offices, then Sixth Street paid for with donations and then Federal money.

City Hall and the city sites were organized by the city with back up from the state and the National Guard. With money coming from a variety of sources but mostly funneled through city hall.

The lady was still racist and sounded like she was not a wonderful person though.

Working with people trying to direct them this past year to where to go for resources has been crazy. I'm happy the resources were there but early on it was a moving target.

I applaud his willingness to speak up against bigotry in a public fashion. Even when their defense is seen by others as imperfect, people deserve credit for sticking up for marginalized groups (speaking up in public has risk). I would also say that any misogynistic or homophobic slur that many of us have grown up with and perhaps occasionally still use can be substituted one-for-one with any number of non-gendered epithets; remember, ‘a-hole’ is universal and it’s always a good time to work to delete certain words from our vocabulary.

Sorry, which part of the story mentioned anything about the former president, or her being a supporter of his, or anything about politics? Did I miss that?

While it IS always right to call out racism, thanks for twisting this into an opportunity to share how you stood up to the legions of racists in Chelsea. I'm positive that happened.

Maybe switch to dacaf and turn off the news. Also, violence and calling women the c-word is never a good look - even when you are "going off" on someone as part of the woke patrol.

Have a great day.

cybah, and I applaud your courage. I don't imagine I'd be so brave and righteous in a similar situation. That word, though, still seems too loaded to me in the States. Would that we were Scotland, where grandmas toss it about without looking anything worse than slightly vulgar; it's about as naughty there as calling someone an effing idiot.

Here, I think it undercuts the authority and intention of the messenger due to its spiteful usage by fragile incels and misogynists. I'd welcome alternatives that are equally cutting but don't carry that regrettable whiff of gendered disdain.

(Given the current power imbalance, I still stand by lobbing certain epithets -- like prick, dick, knob, tool, fuckstick, nutsack, ballbag, scrote, schmuck, putz, animate mound of smegma, etc. -- at men that merit them.)

But I've never met her and I don't know her, if you get what I mean.

No, what do you mean? Because she's person of color? Racist much? Gross.

Lady's white as wonder bread. Weird projection you have going on there, friend.

I don't usually judge a book by it's cover, but that photo tells me everything I need to know about this woman, and none of it's good.

So far I’ve encountered at least 15 maskless riders on 2 different Blue Line cars-most in groups of 4-6.

I've noticed an increasing lack of compliance with mask requirements. I hope that the CDCs new guidance will make a difference, but I'm not holding my breath. (It's too bad I can't hold my breath for the train ride - that might be safer!)

I’ve seen one maskless person, heard multiple live announcements about federal mask regulations.

My return trip on the Blue Line was the same as my trip out, lots of maskless people on the Maverick platform (including one guy riding his bike) and in the car. I was one of many people to get off at Gov Center. Walking up the stairs was like entering a different realm, everyone on the Green Line platform was wearing a mask.

Dunno if it was the same guy I saw last week, but he had it all: No mask, blasting a boom box, and taking a bike on during rush hour.

The 111 is the busiest bus I've ever seen in my life. We need three times as many.

As far as crazy goes, we have a pocket of real anti vac anti mask people here. It's not a big pocket but it's loud. Between Chelsea, Everett, Revere and Winthrop mostly. This does not shock me to see that happen , I'm sure it's only the first time it was noticed tbh.

Put an officer on the bus and have him or her enforce the mask rules. She will probably take the bus tomorrow. Bus drivers and ambassadors are not mask enforcers.

There were 3 T "cops" standing around outside at DTX today... doing nothing & without masks.

outside?

Imagine if transit officers actually rode the T instead of driving around in SUVs?

… enforced no parking in bus stops and bus lanes.

up

Imagine if transit officers had to wait for the T to get to the station where an incident was happening.

The logistics regarding how many T cops there are and how many buses, subway cars and stations there are operating at any given time should make it obvious that for your complaint to be satisfied we would have to make the entire transit system look like a prison complex and add an upper five to six figure salary for every one of those shifts that needs to be covered.

Maybe next time you should stop and think for just a second before you post.

...they might very well be closer to the station, or on the train, where the incident is happening. It doesn't have to be all of them, but some?

Maybe next time you should stop and think for just a second before you post.

Yes, well...

Myself I don't understand the need for a separate group of transit cops at all. Just coordinate with local PDs. Police are organized by geography, and the MBTA is so spread out that local cops offer the best response.

"Toes of fury" is the best EVER. Hats off to you, Adam.

Wow. Lately it seems like wearing a mask properly may be the only simple way to save me from the variants creeping in shadows of the MBTA transit system even though I'm fully vaccinated. But then there's the riders who don't take temper tantrums but are maskless and get away with it.
