Little League umpire in West Roxbury faces child-porn charges
Michael O'Reilly of West Roxbury was arraigned today on one count each of posing a child in a state of nudity and dissemination of child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
O'Reilly, a probation officer at Brookline District Court, is umpire coordinator for the Parkway Little League in West Roxbury, the DA's office reports.
At his arraignment in West Roxbury District Court, O'Reilly was released on payment of $5,000 bail and on condition he stay away from everybody under 18
Earlier this month, the Boston Police Department received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alleging that an individual, later identified as Mr. O’Reilly, had shared sexual abuse material on a messenger app, prompting an investigation led by detectives assigned to the Boston Police Internet Crimes Against Children Unit and Human Trafficking Unit and assisted by members of Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and members of this office’s Human Trafficking and Exploitation Unit. Police executed a search warrant at his home last week and located items belonging to him that contained child sexual abuse material.
Innocent, etc.

Homeland Security?
Glad they got this guy but Homeland Security is hunting pedophiles now? This feels something already handled by other enforcement agencies.
If you think about it, there
If you think about it, there is a big overlap with ICE.
I don't think there should be
I don't think there should be any opposition to what level of governmental authority be allowed to catch pedophiles.
If the material crosses borders?
If the material in question is coming from outside of the US, it makes sense to be on the radar of DHS, no?
Maybe?
FBI deals with plenty of cross border stuff, doesn't it?
My assumption was that thanks to the 'War on Terror' DHS has an easily time doing gray area stuff that might require a warrant for other LEO entities and that's why they were involved.
Agree with the sentiment that the fact that this guy a parole office trumps his little league involvement.
West Roxbury police, what's going on over there?
It’s about task forces and tips/info
Pedofiles like this have gotten real sloppy recently. Lots of child pornography stuff happening and it seems to be on an uptick unfortunately
Now?
I'm fairly certain that it has been part of Homeland/ICE's mission since the Homeland Security Act of 2002 created DHS...
Of all the things to think about....
You’re really concerned with cherry picking and semantics over who should or shouldn’t be involved with apprehending child abusers? DHS has cyber security analysts with tools and access that likely serve to benefit local law enforcement, and or augment FBI and other task forces, and prove necessary in getting the job done here to its fullest capacity- putting this guy away. It’s unbelievable to me that in a case like this someone would waste their breathe questioning who was involved. When it comes to protecting children- it’s all hands on deck.
It's not a criticism, it's a comment
Seems like you answered my question in the middle of all your boys in blue histronics, so thanks?
Say hi to Donnie Palmer.
