Maybe Amtrak's started using the Cape Cod Tunnel

Amtrak is advertising to a certain demographic with a possibly shaky grasp of geography via a Facebook page that proclaims Boystown, The West Village, Provincetown, and more are just an Amtrak away.

Time was, you could take a train to Provincetown
The Provincetown train station, back in the day, via the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth (posted under this Creative Commons license).

The train line is one of the best trails in the state now.

I don't know what the state's plans are, if any, to bring it through the rest of Wellfleet and Truro to Provincetown. Is the line still intact?

There is work going on to extend it 2 miles further north in Wellfleet. Part of this was the acquisition of the new Wellfleet Hollow Campground. The end goal is to get to PTown eventually….it’s not as straightforward to finish the trail, if they want to follow the old ROW, some of the land is privately owned now.

Passenger trains to Ptown stopped in the 1930s...
And freight to the Outer Cape ended in the 1950s, but Amtrak's in-house travel agency, Amtrak Vacations does offer connections to Provincetown via ferry, so there's that. It doesn't appear to be an official Thruway Connection, though that might be something the folks at Amtrak HQ in DC might want to consider, since it's a pretty easy connection..

Amtrak used to run seasonally to Hyannis
though only from New York City, not from Boston. The train left the Northeast Corridor at Attleboro and headed east to the Cape.

Can't get to Provincetown without a bus/bike/car but you can get as far as Hyannis and easily connect to MV and Nantucket.
We've done several long weekends where we rode to South Station from work, took our loaded up bikes on the train, and connected to the islands or just hung out on the cape.

But only runs through Labor Day weekend
and only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Monday holidays.
The first year, it ran through Columbus Day weekend, but apparently there wasn't enough September and October ridership to continue that.
Provincetown Ferries don't run year-round
They are usually May to mid-October in my experience.
Sometimes through November, on reduced schedule
I haven't checked lately to see whether they continued that last year or this year.
