Raging brook swallows car in Newton; at least it was unoccupied

The Newton Fire Department reports the normally quiet Cheesecake Brook, which runs alongside Albemarle Field, turned into a torrent in the rains this afternoon, swallowing an unoccupied car.
Separately, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Revere, Lynn and surrounding areas - sparking phones across Suffolk County to ping, even phones as far south as Roslindale, where at the time, there was no rain, no wind and bright sun trying to break through the haze.

The cluster started in
The cluster started in Cambridge and seemed to become angry over Revere after passing over Chelsea but I was near five devices that didn't go off until the storm was in Lynn even though my phone casually showed a tornado was possible with no alarm several minutes earlier... I appreciate the alert but it was a little unsettling that if this thing did do damage where I was that the alarms would have been going off after a possible strike.
Yeah, that durn cell over Cambridge
Shortly before issuing the tornado warning, the NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning that referenced a particularly violent cell located right over Cambridge. What made you so mad, cloud?

The alert probably went to
The alert probably went to everyone as soon as they had any idea. It wouldn't have helped those of us in Cambridge, but the North Shore probably got the alert with time to spare. Hopefully, there were no tornadoes (or at least no significant damage).
Got it in Medford
I live in that small chunk of Medford that was included in the warning. I grabbed my work computer in one hand, cat in my arms and my husband and I headed for the basement cave for the duration.
I might have had more questions had the sky not looked so bad.

Perhaps the City Councilor in Newton who heads up the CRWA can look to her own backyard and its problems with heavy rain before she opines on the future of the Gazza DPW garage on Frontage Road in South Boston.
Newton filled a lot, I mean a lot of wetlands in the 1800's. Hence the water has nowhere to go. Bad Newton Bad.

I remember seeing a project where they were researching localized flooding and finding time after time that it was related to where the water used to flow - streambeds, filled wetlands, filled waterways, etc.
They have a lot of maps from bygone eras to work from.
