Alleged cop-punching putsch doctor released on personal recognizance, but has to undergo periodic drug tests - and is ordered not tamper with them

A federal magistrate judge yesterday released Dr. Jacquelyn Starer of Ashland on personal recognizance following her arrest yesterday on charges she not only strolled into the Capitol on Jan. 6 but punched a cop in the head, but set several conditions, including a couple Starer would be familiar with, since, in addition to gynecology, she also specializes in addiction treatment, specifically to undergo random drug tests.
And, Magistrate Judge Jennifer Boal wrote, Starer must:
Refrain from obstructing or attempting to obstruct or tamper, in any fashion, with the efficiency and accuracy of any substance abuse testing or monitoring which is (are) required as a condition of release.
She also has to participate in a mental-health treatment program, Boal ordered.
Starer is free to move around Massachusetts, but has to alert the federal probation office in Boston if she plans to travel elsewhere in the U.S. Foreign travel, however, is right out: She has to surrender her passport.
Starer was formally charged with forcibly assaulting and impeding federal officers, civil disorder, knowingly engaging in physical violence in a restricted building and engaging in physical violence in a Capitol building. According to an affidavit by an FBI agent on the case, Starer entered with Capitol with her fellow insurrectionists and when stopped by a row of cops, punched one in the head. The cop punched her back - and she breathed in some of the pepper spray officers were using to try to push the mob back.
Although she made her initial appearance in US District Court in Boston, court records show that, like other Massachusetts residents charged with Jan. 6 putsching, Starer will have her case transferred to federal court in Washington.

Why is she being required to take drug tests at all? Drugs weren’t mentioned in the indictment, except for her vocation of helping people get off drugs.

She's got access to a prescription pad, and her behavior has been, shall we say, cause for concern.
It's "punitive", only it isn't, is my guess. It's preventative.

you can assault law enforcement in an attempt to actually overthrow the government and still stay out of prison. you get drug tested, but you have to like, seriously, pinky swear that you won't use your industry connections to tamper with the results or do so yourself. heck, you can freely move to another town in your state and set up your medical practice where people dont know you're a terrible person.

What does her being white have to do with anything? Should she automatically be jailed?
I take it you have never heard about race-based
bias in setting recognizance obligations. A PoC accused of these crimes would be far likelier to face pre-trial detention or a very large bail. (No lawyer, I: forgive me if I'm using inaccurate parlance here.)

A Black Woman or Man would have been jailed immediately. Have you been hiding under a rock somewhere Republican? Read a newspaper or watch the News on TV. Black people are still treated differently from White people at all levels by Law Enforcement.
