How fast do you have to go for the staties to stop you for speeding? 75 won't do it, unless you're doing something else, too. Maybe 85? If he was going that fast, he's a stupid criminal, even without the coke in his car.

“More than 2 lbs” so a kilo?

The cop report says 1133 grams. My calculator says that equals 2.497 pounds. Adam wrote "more than 2-1/2 pounds," because that's another thing the cops said. Actually, a tiny bit less than 2-1/2, but cops, y'know? Roughly 1-1/8 Kilo, if you like that kind of thing.

It really is just an absurd comment.

There is no fear involved.

In the 1980s, at my elementary school, we learned both Imperial and Metric systems and how to use them both. At the time, we were told "it was prepare for us to eventually switch to the metric system like the rest of the world does". There was truth to that statement as there was a push in the late 70s and 80s to get people to switch.

But big business fought back and because commodities trading (i.e. wheat, coal, oil, etc) still uses imperial measurements.. it will remain that way for some time. And until we start to use the metric system in trading, we'll all be forced to know both.

Combined with the fact that Americans typically hate any outside change like this.. there was just so much outcry and the movement to switch ended.

I recently found out that it hasn't been taught in the public school system in over a decade. Which is kinda sad because outside of the rest of the world using it, its used in things like medical stuff, chemistry, and any other science based academia. You'd think you'd want kids to know that before high school so you aren't spending some time in Chemistry class learning the metric system so you *can* actual do the Chemistry work. (Just seems counterproductive).

Plus its not a hard system to use. Its all in the powers of 10 so its easy head math. The hardest part for me was learning all the pre-fixes and knowing what they mean (milli, deca, centi, etc). And learning celcius, and translating it to Fahrenheit. And for that matter, any conversion between the two.. because Imperial isn't logical, its just random.

You could probably spend a week teaching it and most kids would understand the basics of it. My school made it known that we didnt need to be proficient, we just needed to know the basics. We spent far more time on Imperial .. cuz again, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense so 'learning' just becomes rote.

But I have no kids so my opinion is 'mileage may vary'
