Somerville gets artists, artist says

Doug Holder interviews Somerville artist Jen Fries, a New York native who spent time in Vermont:
At the most basic level, Somerville is the first place I've lived where, when I say I'm an artist, people don't respond with, "But what’s your real job?"

Besides being racist and obnoxious, this comment seems meant for the previous post about the guy walking marathons or half-marathons through all of Boston's neighborhoods.

This is how you say "I haven't been to Boston or haven't left my street in 40 years" without saying that.
I live in Roxbury
Which many consider to be "the hood." Middle aged white guy. Never had any trouble at all. In fact, people are very welcoming and friendly.
I would be happy to give you a tour so you can see it is not what you think.
And I think you meant to post your racist comment to a different post.
I've biked through all the Boston neighborhoods
Never had a problem, not when I worked on Mission Hill twenty years ago, not when I've biked through Roxbury and Mattapan and Dorchester after work to join up with family outings or events.
I also bike through Roxbury reasonably often
and have never felt unsafe there. (Ditto for Dorchester and Mattapan, though I'm less likely to be biking there because they are further away from home.)
The hood of...Somerville?
What area would that be?
Medford
or maybe Cambridge, but if it was Cambridge, it would be "neighborhood", because in Cambridge we never use one syllable where three will do.
Not Exactly
Medford is where artists who make a living go when they have kids and need more space for family and profession (source: got two musicians, videographer and a jewelry artist on my street, writers and others in the neighborhood who sold their Somerville condos)
Medfid is where people go when they get priced out of the Ville
When you can't afford a condo near Davis you buy a small house near WF in Medfid. Then you constantly remind people you once lived in Davis. There is no "moving out to the suburbs" angle, but whatever makes the pill go down easier, I guess.
The hood of Somerville
Nobody uses this term here, but there is a legitimate issue of gun violence around one particular small section of the city, Mystic Avenue at Temple Street. My impression is that it is people from faraway suburbs who come here to cause trouble.
Tell me you know nothing
Tell me you know nothing about urban gun violence by saying dumb s--- like this. I went to school in Grove Hall for six years, its a perfectly fine neighborhood to take a walk in.
Just an observation
It’s a real job for a few but not for the vast majority. Hence why for some bizarre reason it’s the only industry where we subsidize house specifically for it.
I’d love to know why we have occupation specific welfare.
