Battle between history and housing brewing in Charlestown

WBUR reports some Charlestown resident don't think the Bunker Hill Monument is enough to commemorate the famous battle and so want historic designation for a much larger area by the battle's 250th anniversary in 2025. Some of the area could include land slated to become part of the massive redevelopment of the Bunker Hill housing development for which ground was recently broken.

The monument built as part of a real estate developers effort to sell lots on the hill.

This has the same vibe of the "Save Our Heritage" folks who did not want increased plane traffic from Hanscom, because of Lexington and Concord but were just fine with planes taking off over Castle Island, Dorchester Heights, Bunker Hill, and where the Battle of Chelsea Creek was fought.

I smell BS.

Can't wait to learn that it's a historic fact that every Minuteman was allocated at least two street parking spaces per unit and it would be erasing history to reduce that number in any way.

Whenever stuff like this crops up, which is often, I like to imagine all the behind-the-scenes action making it possible. There are multiple people in Charlestown who probably have been holding weekly Zoom meetings about how to stop the Bunker Hill redevelopment for years. "Designate Bunker/Breed's Hill as historic sites" has probably been a bullet point in a Google doc of potential action items for months, revisited at each meeting and given updates like "@Mary will contact son's law firm" and "@Dave research filing costs (???)"

"where rebel soldiers constructed an earthen fort" gave me pause for a moment to figure out which war was being battled since rebels are more commonly affiliated with the Civil War than the Revolutionary War.
