I don't want to be pessimistic,
but with all the different events that have happened regarding our infrastructure being attacked,
I fear that this incident is another attempt to cripple our country.

Last I heard, They don't know for sure what happened.

I believe it was hackers.

Someone interviewed did mention needing to upgrade the computers then, he mentioned cyber security.

Out of the profits that the airlines have, and with some government assistance, security protecting the computer systems can surely be upgraded.

We have a lot of money going out. The money should stay in our country, so we can harden the infrastructures and make damn sure critical computer systems are
well protected.

Hospitals, Banks, Utilities,
Law enforcement agencies,
and other entities have been compromised/hacked.

What more disruption and damage is 2023 going to see?

Before you had even posted this comment, the FAA released a brief statement:

FAA STATEMENT 6:30 p.m. EST

The FAA is continuing a thorough review to determine the root cause of the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system outage. Our preliminary work has traced the outage to a damaged database file. At this time, there is no evidence of a cyber attack. The FAA is working diligently to further pinpoint the causes of this issue and take all needed steps to prevent this kind of disruption from happening again.
