Graffiti-covered, darkened, rusty Roslindale bridge transformed with new murals funded by nearby residents
Folks who live near the Blakemore Bridge over the train tracks between Hyde Park Avenue and Florence Street in Roslindale held a block party on the bridge today to celebrate the new murals on either side that celebrate the neighborhood, its people and its fauna.
Residents, led by Meri Bond and Dennis Kirkpatrick came up with the idea and raised some $15,000 for the murals, by Andres Duarte, Anna Jacobs, SuperSobek, Jonathan Lopez Wilen, to replace the rust and graffiti that had long been the dominant oeuvre on the bridge, which is pretty much all there is to Blakemore Street.
The city chipped in with new lighting and with a repainting of the parts of the bridge not covered with the murals; Top Liquor, on the Hyde Park Avenue side of the bridge, also contributed to the effort.

I see white people from West Roxbury
Being fearful of such art
Bugged
It's.....a ladybug. What's to be afraid of?
Maybe
They are confusing white people with white aphids.
I never understand the desire of some people to interject race into conversations where it is completely irrelevant and meaningless.
White people from West Roxbury
Why does it always come down to race? You do realize there’s plenty of White people in Rozzie also. I am one of those people for the last 65 years. I’m fearful of nothing. Sounds like you’re the one who is fearful. The bridge looks good. It needed to be cleaned up. Nice effort. Leave it at that.
This is beautiful and I hope
This is beautiful and I hope it is contagious. The power boxes need artful companions
Rozzie is full of hep cats
This bridge is frequently part of my path of travel and now it's so much more psychedelic! Happy for the color added to the streetscape.
