Update 11 p.m.: The number of businesses and homes without power is up to 7,959.
Eversource reports a series of power outages from just north of Franklin Park up to Boston Medical Center and areas near Tremont and Dartmouth street to the turnpike. Some 204 business and homes were blacked out as of 10:05 p.m. - as well as traffic and street lights.

Almost all of the South End between Tremont and Albany is out
I just walked home to East Brookline Street from the Pru and almost everything between Tremont Street and Albany Street is out. At first it appeared to be only street lights and traffic signals, but then I heard the generator at the Ruth Lillian Barkley Housing Development and saw several large "luxury" residential buildings with no lights on at all (I guess having a generator is just that too much of a luxury for these places). Most of my street was dark, except ten or so rowhouses on each side of the Albany Street end, including mine. I'm closer to BMC, so maybe it's a more resilient section of the grid. My clocks were all displaying the correct time, which means it never went off here..
Just updated the tally
As of 11, it's up to nearly 8,000 homes and businesses.
Ever source sucks
I don't know if this particular problem is their fault, but the NSTAR/Eversource consolidation immediately reduced quality of service across the board. So much for Bork's "efficiency."
